Sarmizegetusa Regia

In a recent article i showed you the church of Densus and i told you that in it’s construction were used stones and pieces from the buildings of Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa. This was the second capital of the dacian state, after it was conquered bu the roman empire. But what was their first capital ?

The first capital of the Dacian state was Sarmizegetusa Regia. This city was part of a dacian defensive system formed of 6 fortresses: Sarmizegetusa Regia, Luncani – Piatra Roșie, Costești – Blidaru, Costești – Cetățuie, Căpâlna și Bănița. It was an important religious and cultural center, reaching it’s peak under the reign of Decebal. After it’s conquest by the Roman Empire, a garrison is stationed here with the task of destroying the capital city, thus destroying the dacian morale. In the same time, a new settlement is born only 40 km away, under roman ruler-ship called Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, that becomes the new capital of Dacia.

Today, all those that reach Grădiștea de Munte, Hunedoara district, can visit the archeological site of the former Dacian capital, and also a tiny museum about the gold treasures remnant from those ages. Both are worthy of a visit to learn and discover a page or Romania’s history.

Biserica Densus – Densus church

In general, in Romania putem spune ca daca ai vazut o biserica, le-ai vazut pe toate. Acelasi stilarhitectural, aceleasi picturi, aceleasi icoane, acelasi lucru.

Generally, in Romania, we can say that if you’ve seen a church, you’ve seen ‘em all. Same style, same paintings, same thing. Of course there are exceptions, churches that stand out through architecture or paintings.

Today i will tell you about a church that is absolutely unique in our country. The church Densus is built in an unique style, raised as a pagan temple that was later converted. Experts keep arguing about the age of the church, because for the construction of this church were used many stones from the ruins of Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetuza. Also many parts have been added to the original construction, making dating the church impossible.

Some legends say that this place of worship was built during the time of the ancient Dacia and the after the Romans conquered them, they started desecrating their temples to bring down morale. One of the ways they would do that was for soldiers to go intro the church mounted on their horses, destroying everything and leaving horse droppings everywhere. In order to prevent them, dacians builders placed a huge block of marble over the entrance so that not only would soldiers be forced to dismount, but also bow low in order to enter humbled. I know not i it is true or false, but i did see the marble block🙂

Between legend and truth, we have now a superb and unique church that is worth a visit.🙂

Cetatea Deva – Deva Fortress

O zi superba va urez si va las cateva fotografii:

My travels took me through Hunedoara County in search of a few amazing sites. One of these tourist spots resides in the city of Deva, where we can visit the ruins of an old fortress that bares the city’s name.

Dating back to 1264, this fortress has a long and rich history, being held under different powers throughout history, or under the ownership of different individuals, it has seen was and uprisings in it’s time and has survived them all until the year of 1849 when a gunpowder shed exploded here and destroyed most of the fortress.

A long time it stood forgotten and abandoned without being used in any way for it’s touristic and historical value. In recent years restoration works have been conducted here and thus the fortress is visit-able today. Access to the fortress is done by funicular train for those that want to get there fast or by foot for those who want to enjoy the scenery😀

The fortress is worth visiting, for it’s bastions that still stand today and for the amazing view from up there🙂

Have a pleasant day, and here are a few photos:

Crama Lacerta – Lacerta Winery

In acest weekend am plecat la pas prin lumea vinului, printr-o vizita in zona podgoriei din Dealu’ Mare si o crama fabuloasa din marginea judetului Buzau.

Ghidul nostru ne-a si oferit in timpul turului sa gustam cateva bauturi (must, must in timpul fermentatiei si binenteles vin), oferindu-ne explicatii detaliate despre fiecare in parte, fiecare reprezentand un pas diferit in procesul de pregatire al vinului.

This weekend i had the occasion to walk into the world of wine with a visit to the „Dealu’ Mare” Vineyard and a wonderful winery at the edge of Buzau state. Thus i welcome you to the Lacerta Winery.

I had the occasion to see and receive information about the whole wine making process, from the gathering of the grapes to the final product. I found out how the grapes are picked and sorted, how they are held in special containers, i saw the wine barrels and i found out what they have special and in the end i saw how the famous wine bottles are prepared for sale.

Our guide offered us 3 beverages during the tour (wine in different stages of the process), giving us plenty of information about each one.

The tour was great, and to add to the experience we had the opportunity of participating in a wine tasting🙂

In the end i leave you with a few photos and i bid you happy drinking😉
