Palatul Culturii din Iasi – The Palace of Culture in Iasi

Fiecare oras are cateva cladiri reprezentative de care toata lumea a auzit, fie ca au ajuns sau nu in orasul respectiv. Astfel, in Iasi avem Palatul Culturii. O superba cladire aflata in inima orasului.

ENGLISH:

Each city has a few representative buildings that everyone has heard of, wheter they have ever been to that city or not. Thus, in Iasi we have the Palace of Culture. A huge and amazingly beautiful building in the heart of the city

Presently the building is truly a cultural center, housing 4 different important museums plus a few temporary exhibits(when i went there, i had the opportunity to see a „medieval torture devices” expo). The museums found here are: Moldavian peasant museum, Moldavian history museum, Museum of Art and Museum of Science. A bit of each and maybe more then you might think. Different exponants of all kinds and all times. I was pleasantly surprised to go through a door and find a huge windmill in the adjacent room and this was only one of the surprises i discovered here.

For those interested, there is the possibility of climbing up in the clock tower and probably see an amazing view of the city. I say probably, because i did not have the occasion to go up the tower. Visits are based on appointments and i did not know that and did not get a place on the tour, but i hope this information helps you in the future 🙂

And now a few photos from my visit here, a small collection that unites 4 museums into 1 post 🙂

A good day to you all.

Biserica fortificata din Cincșor – Fortified church of Cincșor

Iata-ne ajunsi din nou in Transilvania si ce putem vedea aici? Biserici fortificate 🙂 Astfel va prezint astazi o mica, dar superba biserica evanghelica, situatia in satul Cincsor.

ENGLISH:

Here we are again in Transilvania and what can we see here? Fortified Churches 🙂 Thus i will show you today, a tiny, yet superb Evangelical church, placed in the village of Cincsor. As with all churches of that time, this building was the soul of the community and in moments of dangers it was also the force of the community. Behind the walls of the church, the villagers would take shelter in times of attack (which was pretty often). The church has many towers were people would store food, grains, tools and other essentials to rebuild their lives (the attackers would usually burn everything they could, including the villager’s houses). A small glimpse into the past, to harsh times but when people were full of hope.

Cetatea Rupea – Fortress Rupea

ENGLISH:

Rupea fortress was a peasant fortress of Brasov District, first mentioned in 1324, but being older than that. Today it offers and important touristic objective in the district and an amazing point to admire the sights for many miles all around.

This fortress was raised on the whereabouts of a former Roman fort, having the purpose of defending the local commercial routes. The fortress today is raised on 3 levels, built centuries apart. Each level develops and ads new storage, towers and bastions. In the lower fortress we find what is called „the bacon tower”, a tower representative of Saxon fortresses 🙂

I leave you now with a few photos where winter meets history perfectly.

I told you you can find a touristic objective here: the evangelic fortified church, which is part of the UNESCO world heritage since 1999. The church also houses a tiny ethnographic museum that offers us the possibility to see how the people of a different time used to live.

In recent years, the village of Viscri gained a bit of fame because of the acquisition of a few houses here by Prince Charles of Wales, who also helped with the restoration of the church.

A wonderful and unforgettable place that deserves a visit.
