If spring is upon us, i say we go back to winter for a bit. I always liked coldness over hotness and the definition of cold can describe the objective i am about to describe for you: The Ice Hotel at Balea Lake

Usually when we pay for accommodations, we expect some specific facilities for out money. 100 Euros should bring a lot of facilities… or not ? In the Fagaras Mountains, during winter, one can stay in an ice igloo 🙂 Without heat, without wi-fi, without many other things, just nature and the full force of winter for company. Whether you come to stay the night, or just passing through as i did, you will surely see something incredible. Here we can visit a number of chambers and igloos , each with a specific theme (usually inspired by movies), we can see nature battling winter, thus having the occasion to take a stroll over lake Balea, which is completely frozen (you can cross the lake by foot or by snow-mobile) 🙂 Not to mention the incredible view of the Fagaras Mountains covered in a blanket of snow…

I will leave you with a few photos in remembrance of the passing of winter.

ENGLISH:

Sibiu is one of the most known city in our country. It is a cultural center with a huge array of museums.

One of these museums is the „August Von Spiess” Hunting Museum, a museum type you do not often cross. The museum bears the name of colonel August Von Spiess, hunter for the royal family during the reign of King Ferdinant the First and contains a collection of about 1600 pieces, formed mostly of weapons, hunting trophies, and a huge array of photos and stories about hunters 🙂

What can we find here? I think the name says it all. Steam engines of many kinds, sizes and age await your visit…

Where is it ? At the train stations of course, or more exactly at 5 min walk along the tracks from the station. I am not good at giving directions, so i will leave you with a google maps link with the exact location.

ENGLISH:

This winter i had the occasion to visit the city and Sibiu once again and i made it just in time for the Christmas fair. The city is amazing and i will tell you more about it in my next posts, but for now i want to show you a few photos from the fare.

A huge Christmas tree, all kind of decorations and lots of little houses that sold all kind of yummy treats. This would be a short description of the fair. more detailed i could tell you about the pleasure of walking around in the cold evening with a cup of hot mulled wine, admiring the hand crafted merchandise and all the stands. Christmas carols could be heard all over the „Big Square” of Sibiu and everywhere you could see happy smiling people, taken up with the joy of Christmas. As i mention earlier, treats of all kind were had at the fair from cooked food, to smoked meats and of course lots and lots of sweets. Al these prepared by people that came here from all the corners of the country.

A special place i visited was the old town hall’s clock tower, a place that offered a one of a kind view over all the fair, as you can see in one of the photos below.

That is about it for now and with huge delay i bid you all a happy new year 🙂
