This was the first monastery i visited on my trip through Moldova. This monastery was going to be a preview for all the ones to follow ( the following monasteries that i visited were much much more amazing).

From what information i could gather of the web, this monastery is the biggest nunnery in the country 🙂 It is also the most accessible and visited monastery in Neamt district. What brings people here? SOme come here to see an amazing monastery, others come here for the beautiful scenery, but i think most come here to pay their respects at the grave of Veronica Micle. This lady was the greatest love of the renowned poet Mihai Eminescu and is buried here, because she lived the last few years of her life at this monastery…

And now a few photos…

Manastirea Neamt / Neamt Monastery

Astfel in onoarea acestuia aici se poate vedea coroana domnitorului, in micul muzeu organizat aici…

Welcome to the biggest church emplacement in Moldova. Although documented since 1407, the current church was build under the reign of Stefan the Great. Thus in his honor, his crown is being stored here and exposed in a church museum here… There is also a legend at this location, and it refers to „the holy unknown one”. The remains of a man have been discovered in the courtyard of the emplacement a few years back… Being buried here, the man must have been someone important, yet his name has been lost in the fog of time, being known today only as the holy unknown one.

Enjoy this amazing location…  🙂

Manastirea Agapia / Agapia Monastery

Today i shall start showing you a few of the famous Monasteries around Moldova and Bucovina, just a few because i only visited a few, but i promise to go back and visit them all 🙂

One of the monasteries of Moldova is „Agapia”, and is in fact represented by 2 sites. The new church, special for it’s unique frescoes painted by the famous Nicolae Grigorescu, and the old site, special for it’s hideout away from the world in the woods… Both are amazing, and both must be visited.

The old site, offers a serene moment along with some incredibly fresh air. All is made of woo around here, giving the place an „old” feel… What is sad, is the fact that at the entry towards the church, you find a sign that says „warning, cars get broken into, around here”… If not even in front of churches do people behave themselves, what can we say?… The new Agapia church is the second biggest nunnery in the country, the first being Varatec Monastery. A monastery like no other, with amazing paintings that give it an unique air. And as a bonus, behind the church we can find the poet Al. Vlahuta’s  memorial house, discovering that his mother was one of the nuns at this monastery 🙂

Gradina Zoologica „Dragos Voda” – Judetul Neamt / „Dragos Voda” Zoo – Neamt district

Looking for touristic objectives for my trip through Moldova, i learned about an „Bison reservation” in the Neamt district… I said to myself that an objective like this must not be missed… I read a bit about this place in advance, and knew that it was spread over a huge spot of land, and that it currently houses around 7-8 bisons…  ONce i got there, i discovered that the reservation is actually a zoo, housing a wide variety of animals… Pens that hold, 1 bear, 1 boar and 1 wolf, along with many many types of birds, are the first things that great visitors…  Further on, the pens get bigger and bigger to offer more freedom to the dears, bisons and stags that hate held here… I also found out that the 3 bisons that the visitors see, are not the only ones, the rest living in the wild, on the huge grounds of the zoo… I must admit that the scenery i discovered here impressed me alot, even more than the animals i came here to see 🙂 You can see that for yourselves in the few photos below…
