ENGLISH:
Last year i was passing through the Banat area of Romania, and more exactly through the beautiful city of Timisoara. A nice quiet city that left me with an amazing feeling
From what i have read online, this city has an amazing history, but i will not go into details too much. I will mention that this is where the revolution of 1989 started and that Timisoara was officially the first city free from the communist regime.
Also i must mention that Timisoara is a city of „firsts”. To remind a few of them: here was the first navigable channel in Romania (the Bega Channel), it was the first city to have it’s streets light by electric lamps, the first telegraph and the first ambulance station in Romania were here as well and for thos of you who are into sports, Romania’s first hosted European soccer match took place here.
I was pleasantly surprised by the number of parks, having the possibility to take a stroll in nice clean air anytime. Also i noticed alot of bike lanes 🙂 Good Job Timisoara.
The city center is housed in what was once the Fortresss of Timisoara. Narrow streets, old amazing buildings, old churches and amazing squares. This would be a short description of the center. Unfortunately when i visited here (2015), the center was undergoing a full renovation, Unirii Square looking like a war zone… That of course did not stop me from admiring the superb buildings of the area with their many wonderful architectural details.
An amazing place to go to in Timisoara is the Botanic Park. With no entrance fee and a quite large area, this park offers an unique experience. Personally i felt like i was taking a stroll through the woods, occasionally entering small glades filled with flowers, and all of this in the middle of a city. Who could have expected that ? 🙂
My impression of Timisoara was and is a very good one and i recommend this city to everyone.
